Valentine's Gift
A bunch of flowers. A box of chocolates. A huggable teddy bear. A Tagaytay adventure. A fine dining treat. A Lightning Thief movie. A sunset walk along the boulevard.
That never happened. They were all my plans because I thought we really need to make a difference on this particular day and arrrgghhh… the pressure from people out there, its kind of bullying me. Anyway, considering my simplicity and practicality, I just consider my options and opt for what I do best. Do not complicate things. Make one-step at a time.
Friday, we continued our routine that night. While there were congestions along the main thoroughfares maybe because of the pre-Valentines gimmicks, we with our friends proceeded to the badminton court. A new badminton buddy joined us. A self-assured individual I must say, nevertheless a very likable character. His efforts were highly commendable. Four hours we played, spending the night sweating out endorphins. After the game, we dined at our favorite chicken house and chilled out until 2am.
Saturday, we woke up late. I asked a friend how to get to Tagaytay by public transport. I thought it was an easy task, but after reading the messages from single friends of how Valentine’s Day sucks because they have no dates, I started to see the whole picture. February 14 really sucks. It brings a lot of pressure to people who are both in love and loveless. Expectations, it could drag people to suffering. All right, no need of falling victim to commercialism and consumerism. Spend the day wisely.
Sunday, we woke up very very very layyyyyyyyyt. Immediately, we prepared our badminton gears. We ate lunch and proceeded to the courts. Another new badminton buddy showed up. A lot better than the Friday’s new recruit, he made the game exciting and challenging. It was the heart’s day but we spent it with friends. Perhaps not very ideal, but we made some single souls contented with our presence. For some moments, they forgot the pressures and expectations of the day. We had our dinner at a newly discovered sandwich and coffee bar and went home to see another set of friends in our place. We chatted before hitting the sack at 12mn.
Two days and three nights. That could be a long time of spending Valentine’s Day with conventional activities. However, we defied another convention. Are we happy or at least contented with what we did? There is happiness in simplicity.
P.S. Where is the Valentine’s gift? Read between the lines. hehehe
